National Cherry Festival Student Art Competition

2009 Student Art Print Unveiled

The National Cherry Festival is pleased to showcase the work of several students from throughout the Grand Traverse Region. New this year, the National Cherry Festival’s Student Art Competition saw over 130 submissions from regional students. “Many art mediums were used, from watercolor, pen and ink, to chalk; it was amazing to see the creativity that surfaced. We are thrilled with the response from aspiring artists, all eager to showcase cherries in someway,” said National Cherry President Mary Marois. The competition included two grade divisions; the Student Division for students in 9th through 12th grades, and the Youth Division for art students in 1st through 8th grade. A Graphic Art Division was also judged.

The winning Student piece, created by Nicole Crawford, a student of TBA depicts a pleasing duckling in natural waters swept with cherries. Her piece was done in vibrant pencil pastel tones.
