The National Cherry Festival boasted one prince & one princess each year from the Grand Traverse Area until 1948. In 1948, a junior royalty couple was chosen from each of the seven local elementary schools. Now over 25 schools participate in the National Cherry Festival Junior Royalty Program. Princes and Princesses become our littlest cherry ambassadors and a symbol of school pride.
In addition to participating in several festival activities, Junior Royalty also builds a float to represent their school during the Community and Cherry Royale Parades.
